Educational trips play an essential role in enhancing academic knowledge, expanding practical understanding, and giving students first-hand exposure to real-life systems. As part of our academic curriculum, St. Joseph’s College of Law organised a four-day educational trip to Delhi, with an additional visit to Agra. The purpose of this trip was to help students understand the functioning of India's highest legal and legislative institutions, while also giving us an opportunity to explore the culture and heritage of the capital city. The experience was a blend of learning, exploration, fun, and memorable moments shared with friends and classmates.

This report provides a detailed account of the trip, covering each day’s activities, places visited, and the learnings gained.

Day 1: Visit to the Supreme Court of India & Sarojini Market
We arrived in Delhi on the morning of Day 1, landing at around 8:00 AM. The moment we stepped out of the airport, we were welcomed by the typical Delhi chill and the vibrant atmosphere of the city. After reaching our accommodation, we freshened up and had breakfast before preparing ourselves for the most awaited part of the trip — the visit to the Supreme Court of India.

Visiting the Supreme Court was the main agenda and academic highlight of the trip. We reached the Supreme Court premises in the afternoon around 2:00 PM, after completing the necessary formalities at the entry point. The security was strict and impressive, reflecting the seriousness and dignity of the institution.

Inside, our class was divided into batches and each batch was allotted a specific courtroom. We were given about 15 minutes to observe the live proceedings. Although many of us initially found it difficult to understand the complexities of the arguments and the legal terminology used by senior advocates and judges, the experience was incredible and insightful. Witnessing the highest judicial authority of India in action was truly inspiring. We observed the discipline, structure, and multi-layered functioning of the apex court, which deepened our understanding of how justice is delivered at the national level.

After observing the proceedings, we were taken to the Judge’s Library, which is known for its vast and invaluable legal collection. One of the most memorable moments of the entire trip was being shown the original copy of the Constitution of India. Seeing this historic document — the foundation of Indian democracy — left a lasting impression on all of us. It connected the theoretical concepts we study in class to the real, tangible history of our nation.

Once the formal visit concluded, the mood shifted from academic to recreational as we visited Sarojini Nagar Market, one of Delhi’s most famous shopping destinations. The market was lively, colourful, and full of energy. From trendy clothing and accessories to street food and bargain stalls, Sarojini offered a vibrant environment that we thoroughly enjoyed. Shopping with friends, negotiating prices, and exploring the bustling lanes turned out to be a fun and memorable part of the day.

Day 2: Visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan & Connaught Place
Day 2 began with excitement as we prepared to visit the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India. The grandeur and architectural beauty of the building were breathtaking. Upon arrival, we were assigned a guide who took us through various sections of the President’s House. The guide explained the history, significance, and functioning of different areas within the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The tour was extremely informative. We learned about the administrative processes carried out within the building, the historical art and artifacts preserved there, and the importance of the Rashtrapati Bhavan in India’s governance system. Walking through the beautifully maintained halls and corridors gave us a sense of pride and appreciation for India’s administrative heritage. It was truly a rich experience for all of us, especially as law students.

Later in the day, we headed to Connaught Place (CP), one of the most iconic and happening locations in Delhi. CP, with its circular architecture, branded stores, cafés, and street shops, gave us another side of the city — one that was modern, vibrant, and youthful. Though the plan originally included a visit to the Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, and Red Fort, we were unable to cover it due to time constraints, which left us a little disappointed. However, the time spent at Connaught Place compensated for it in terms of relaxation, food, and shopping. The lively atmosphere, music, and the general buzz of the area made the visit thoroughly enjoyable.

Day 3: Trip to Agra – Agra Fort & Taj Mahal
Day 3 was dedicated to a full-day trip to Agra. We started early in the morning as the drive from Delhi to Agra is quite long. The journey itself was fun and filled with laughter, music, and conversations with friends. When we reached Agra, our first destination was the historic Agra Fort.

The Agra Fort, built primarily by Emperor Akbar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an outstanding example of Mughal architecture. Exploring the fort allowed us to understand the history of the Mughal Empire, their military strategies, lifestyle, and architectural brilliance. The massive red sandstone walls, intricate carvings, and stories associated with each section of the fort were fascinating. We walked through courtyards, palaces, and viewing areas from where the Taj Mahal is visible in the distance. Learning about its historical significance made the visit both educational and enjoyable.

After the fort, we headed to see the magnificent Taj Mahal — one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The moment we saw the Taj Mahal in person, its beauty left us speechless. The white marble structure, with its perfect symmetry, serene gardens, and the Yamuna River flowing behind it, gave the monument an almost dreamy aura. Standing in front of the Taj Mahal and learning about the love story behind it made the experience even more memorable. The monument looked even more enchanting as the sunset light reflected off its marble.

Once we completed the Taj Mahal visit, we stopped for a late lunch and early dinner. After relaxing for a while, we began our journey back to Delhi, exhausted but extremely satisfied with the day’s experiences.

Day 4: Visit to the Parliament of India & Departure The final day of our trip was reserved for the Parliament of India, another major highlight for law students. Visiting the Parliament was an enriching experience, giving us an opportunity to witness the structure of India's legislative functioning.

We were shown the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and even the Old Parliament building. Seeing the chambers where historic debates and landmark decisions have taken place was an unforgettable moment. We learned about the seating arrangements, functioning of the Houses, and the processes followed during parliamentary sessions. The visit gave us a clearer view of how laws are debated, framed, and passed in the country.

After the Parliament visit, we were taken to Social, a popular café, where our lunch was sponsored by the tour organizers. After lunch, we headed back to the airport to return home.

The Delhi trip was a perfect blend of education, exploration, and enjoyment. We had the opportunity to visit some of the most important institutions of our country — the Supreme Court, Parliament, and Rashtrapati Bhavan — which provided us with invaluable insights into India’s legal and administrative systems. Visits to places like Sarojini Market, Connaught Place, Agra Fort, and the Taj Mahal added cultural and historical depth to the trip.

Throughout the journey, we created beautiful memories with our friends and classmates. Although we faced a few challenges and the facilities provided could have been better for the price we have paid and time constraints, the overall experience was enriching and memorable. This trip not only deepened our understanding of law and governance but also strengthened the bond between classmates. It is an experience that we will cherish for years to come.
