Clothes Donation Drive – Student Council Initiative

This idea was born from a the student council body who wanted to do something about the upcoming cold that would hit Bangalore's streets. We realised that many students were blessed with good quality clothes that could be repurposed and given to people that truly would appreciate and use it.

Students from every class were encouraged to bring clothes that were in good condition, largely unused, and boxes were set up for collection in the college office. On 18th of October, all the viable options were collected and stored in cardboard boxes. Nearly 20 boxes were stacked and prepared for transfer to the recipients, New Ark Mission of India, more colloquially known as Autoraja’s Home for the Destitute.

Around 12 PM on the day, a delivery truck was hired and the boxes were stacked for transport. Two volunteers from the first year of the three year LLB course stepped up to accompany the packages, Mr Pratap and Mr Vijay, graciously going along with me, volunteering as the student representative of the collective Class Representatives. Pratap led the way with his own motorcycle and Vijay followed along with his own car.

I sat in the delivery truck leading the driver to the destination in Doddagubbi, Kothanur. The journey was quite eventful, with delays caused only by traffic piling up near the CBD area and Hennur. We reached the New Ark Mission of India by 1400 hours, and Pratap, Vijay and I were able to unload the precious cargo and hand it over to the members personally.

The manager was deeply grateful for the initiative undertaken by our college, and asked us to uphold them in prayer. We settled the delivery charges with the driver through a call to the college office, where confirmation was given, after which Pratap, Vijay and I took our leave.

Seeing as they had their own vehicles, we were able to depart from there with much gratitude and love being sent our way. We were asked to convey their gratitude directly to the Director and Principal of the Institution for encouraging such an initiative.
