Introduction
St. Joseph’s College of Law hosted its first ever Inter-Collegiate Fest, Chittara ‘25, on 18th and 19th November, 2025 under the theme, ‘The World Is My Home and Its People My Kin.’ The aim of this event was to foster and uphold Constitutional Fraternity and Universal Brotherhood and very same is embodied by the term Chittara, a traditional artform that is used to celebrate oneness.
Under the given theme, the fest consisted of multiple competitions over two days, one of which was the Model Youth Parliament (AIPPM) named Chaduranga, conducted by the Model United Nations Society. The agenda for the event “Deliberations on the Role of a National Language Policy in Shaping National Unity and Social Cohesion” sits at the crossroads of identity, politics and power which demands an understanding of India that goes beyond headlines or classrooms.

Chaduranga Day 1
Day 1 of the fest began with the Inaugural Ceremony, following which the Model Youth Parliament commenced at the Conference Room with numerous participants, with portfolios ranging from Head of Government, Narendra Modi of the ruling party BJP on the right to the Head of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi of the INC, to the left.

The event began with an opening address made by the President of the Model United Nations Society, Ms. Ankitha Sushma R.L. who brought about the aim for conducting such an event with its given agenda under the banner of Chittara and how today’s regional politics is impacted by language, which is meant to be a distinguishing factor for the purpose of unity, but has now been used as a means for spreading divide among people. Following which, Ms. Nula Kahmanna, student coordinator, went ahead to introduce the presiding panel for the day, Dr. Lakshmi Karlekar.

The Panel also included the Chairperson, Ms. Aishwarya Rawat; Vice-Chair, Ms. Rachana Shastry; Press Chairperson, Mr. Roshton Siquera and Political Advisor and Vice-President of the MUN Society, Mr. Aaryan G Prem.

The session began with the introduction and explanation of AIPPM by the Chairperson which included the rules and regulations, the time duration allotted to each Parliamentarian, the matters that they were supposed to address and how the prospect of Point of Information and Point of Order was used by each member and so on. Then it proceeded with making a General List of Opening Statements by both party leaders.

As we proceeded with the List, many POIs (Points of Information) and POOs (Points of Order) were raised due to which the General Opening Statement’s List was converted to the General Speaker’s List and as we moved with the debate, many topics and issues were raised by various parliamentarians that gave a closer look on how bringing about a National Language in a diverse country like India, would be beneficial and detrimental to Indian Fraternity.

The sessions then adjourned for the day with a formal felicitation ceremony wherein the Chairperson, Ms. Aishwarya and the judge for the day, Dr. Lakshmi Karlekar, were felicitated by the faculty coordinator of the Model United Nations Society, Asst. Professor Edwin Joney.

haduranga Day 2
Day 2 of the Model Youth Parliament commenced with the introduction to the judge for the day, Professor Ryan Wilson along with the panel including Chairperson, Mr. Roshton Siquera; Vice Chairperson, Ms. Rachana Shastry and Press Chairperson and President of the MUN Society, Ms. Ankitha Sushma R.L.

The AIPPM session saw participants dressed in accordance with their respective portfolios, effectively creating a visual simulacrum of the real-world policy discussions. This attention to detail not only added an authentic touch to the event but also enhanced the immersive experience for everyone involved. The participants' professional attire complemented their roles, enabling them to embody the complexities of their positions and engage in constructive, in-depth debates. From the heated debate between the ruling government and the opposition, to goosebump-inducing opening speeches, AIPPM closed with an array of possible solutions to the crisis under scrutiny.

Following this, AIPPM session of Chaduranga was officially concluded, followed by a felicitation ceremony of Professor Ryan Wilson.

In conclusion, Day 2 of Model Youth Parliament was a resounding success, marked by meaningful engagement, insightful debates, and an overall enriching experience for all involved. The event not only offered a platform for participants to enhance their public speaking and diplomatic skills but also encouraged them to think critically about the pressing issues faced on a national level.

VALEDICTORY
The valedictory ceremony for Chittara ‘25 on 19th November, 2025 was held where the winners of all events of Chittara were presented with awards. The winners were presented with a memento and a certificate honouring their achievements.
