NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL LAW

The Research Cell of St. Joseph’s College of Law (SJCL) organised a one-day National Conference on “Environmental Law: Issues and Emerging Challenges” on March 1, 2024. The Conference was held at the Conference Hall, New Building of the SJCL Campus.

INAUGURAL

The conference was inaugurated by watering a sapling. The keynote address was delivered by Lara Jesan. The chief guest’s speech was delivered by Dr. Sharada R. Shinde. The book “Invisible Labour” was released on this occasion. The inaugural was graced by the Director, Principal, Vice-Principal, students of SJCL, and paper presenters from across the country. 

PAPER PRESENTATIONS

The paper presentation consisted of five parallel sessions, which included two online sessions. The sessions were chaired by: Dr. Jithin V. J. (conference room) (online), Dr. Pukhraj Agarwal (venue-1) (online), MS. Arifa Chaudhry (venue-2), Dr. Mamtha (venue-3), and Dr. Kajori Bhatnagar (venue-4).

PANEL DISCUSSION A panel discussion consisting of Chairperson Vijay Kumar Gogi along with panellists Dr. Pukhraj Agarwal and Dr. Jithin V. J. The panel discussed complex issues like environmental impact assessment, waste management, sustainable development, the need for promoting conservation strategies, and fostering legal fraternity for societal change after the presentation of papers. The panel discussion gave the participants of the conference an opportunity to ask questions and be involved in meaningful discussion about the topic. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Gagan. K, the faculty of SJCL.

VALEDICTORY The valedictory session was graced by Mr. VIJAY KUMAR GOGI as chief guest. All the paper presenters were given the certificate of participation. The best paper awards were also presented. The following papers and authors received the best paper award. The selection of the best paper award was made after a thorough blind review of the papers by external valuators. 

Overall, the conference gave an opportunity for meaningful discussion on the issues concerning environmental law.
