Utkarsha Mela - Entrepreneurs Day organized by the COMED Cell, St Joseph’s College of Law, 19th June 2024

On June 19, 2024, the COMED Cell of St. Joseph’s College of Law hosted the Utkarsha Mela in the college auditorium. The event aimed to cultivate and encourage entrepreneurial skills among the students, coinciding with Entrepreneurs Day. Prior to the main event, a promotional campaign was held on June 16, 2024, to generate awareness and excitement. Faculty coordinators and committee members organized a skit to captivate the student body. The campaign also included the official inauguration of the event banner by the esteemed director, Fr. Jerald D’Souza SJ, marking the commencement of preparations.



One of the highlights of the event was an American auction called the Utkarsha Auction. The item up for bid was a betta fish along with its bowl. This auction was a novel addition to the college's events and generated considerable excitement among the students. The auction added a dynamic and engaging element to the Mela, with students eagerly participating in the bidding process.


The event on 16th June was success as the student in the college as able to promote the event and the students now aware about it.

Utkarsha Mela: Entrepreneurs Day


The event's primary objective was to foster entrepreneurial spirit and provide a platform for students to showcase and sell their products. Additionally, 10% of the profits were dedicated to charitable causes, instilling a sense of social responsibility alongside business acumen. The Mela commenced at 9:50 AM, transforming the college auditorium into a vibrant marketplace with 18 student-run stalls. These stalls featured a diverse array of products, including handmade crafts, jewellery, homemade food, and tech gadgets. The variety and creativity of the products attracted numerous visitors, ensuring a bustling and dynamic atmosphere throughout the day.


There were different variety of stalls namely: 1. Cookies and Cake 2. Plan C 3. Accessories 4. Prophet Biriyani 5. Advocates Aroma 6. Games for fun 7. Eat and repeat 8. Kabablicious 9. Master menu 10. Cakery 11. Kachori 12. Halvaie 13. Light cookie 14. Bhel Puri 15. Bows for Baes 16. Secret Scribbles 17. Knock the cans 18. Chocoberry Bliss




Students exhibited exceptional skills in salesmanship and customer service, engaging visitors and highlighting the features and benefits of their products. The event was a resounding success, achieving its goal of promoting entrepreneurship and social responsibility. It provided hands-on experience in various aspects of business, including marketing, sales, and customer engagement. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the faculty coordinators, committee members, volunteers, and participants for their dedication and enthusiasm. Utkarsha Mela was a memorable and impactful experience, contributing positively to both the college community and charitable causes. We eagerly anticipate organizing future events that continue to offer valuable learning opportunities and foster the entrepreneurial spirit among our students. We look forward to continuing this tradition and providing more opportunities for our students to develop and display their entrepreneurial skills in future events. Report on the Valedictory Ceremony of 'UTKARSHA MELA' Date: 4th July 2024 Venue: SJCL Quadrangle Time: 9:50am - 10:15am The Utkarsha Mela held at the SJCL auditorium on 19th July 2024, culminated in a grand valedictory ceremony on 4th July 2024. The event marked the celebration of entrepreneurship and business acumen and saw participation from 18 participants from various classes. The valedictory ceremony commenced at 9:50am with a warm welcome by Varsha from 1st Bcom. The highlight of the ceremony was the showcasing of behind the scenes video of Utkarsha Mela and the distribution of awards to the outstanding participants of Utkarsha Mela. The best entrepreneur prize was presented to Varsha, Simran and Sabita of 1 BA LLB 'B' by Father Jerald Dzouza.


All the participants and coordinators were presented with certificates by Mr.Ashish, Ms. Lincy and Ms.Madhura. The organising committee was felicitated by Dr Pauline Priya and Ms Shobha Hegde The student coordinators Deekshitha, Amritha, Nischal and Sumedh handed over the collected money for the charity to the director. . The valedictory ceremony of Utkarsha Mela marked the end of a successful and enriching event. Participants left with valuable insights, new connections, and fond memories. The event was a testament to the collaborative effort and dedication of everyone involved, promising a brighter future for entrepreneurship.
