Remembrance Day of Fr. Stan Swamy

The Human Rights Cell of St. Joseph’s College of law remembered the life and contributions of Fr. Stan Swamy on the 5th of July, 2024. A short program was organized by the committee during the short break, at the college quadrangle. The program was attended by all the students and faculty. The program comprised of a speech on the life and works of Fr. Stan Swamy which was delivered by two students from II B.A. LLB Savanah Mary and Priyadarshini. This was followed by the reading of a poem by Mahima of III year, on the importance of Human Rights and the event concluded with the entire audience listening to the song “We shall overcome” sung by Pete Seeger.

This event encouraged the aspiring law students to draw inspiration from Fr. Stan Swamy's commitment to human rights and social activism. His dedication to minority communities, despite facing adversity and unjust imprisonment, shows the power of legal advocacy. The event was a success and left the audience inspired and optimistic to walk towards the way of truth and justice.
