Policy Analysis Workshop - Freshers

The Public Policy Cell organized the Policy Analysis- hands on workshop for the 1st year students on the 16th and 17th of November 2022 from 1.30 pm - 3.00 pm.

The workshop was intended to introduce the freshers to the domain of public policy research, analysis and practice. Geo C Varghese, the faculty coordinator of the Public Policy Club, was the key facilitator for the two-day workshop. The workshop tried to equip freshmen law students to acquire practical skills in policy research, analysis and communication.

The workshop received an overwhelming response to close to 15o registrations. Due to the hands-on nature of the workshop the participation was limited to the first 60 registrations.

The first day of the workshop was composed of an interactive session intended to communicate the foundations of locating Public Policy within the Socio-political- legal system. The session also touched on understanding the goals of Public Policy making - Equality, Efficiency, Security and Liberty and trade-off’s inherent in decision-making.

The second day of the workshop had a thematic focus on policy analysis and the nature of policy problems as ‘wicked’. The session intended to understand the role of stakeholder mapping and analysis and how Change Models (like Kurt- Lewin’s) could be used to bring in Public Policy transformation. The session ended with the students given access to resources which included professional policy briefs and memo’s and also the key role of advocacy and policy windows in policy communication.
