Orientation to Moot Court and Trial Advocacy

The Moot Court Society of St. Joseph’s College of Law, Bangalore, organized Moot Court orientation 2023-24 for the first- and third-year students of Law pursuing BA.LL.B., BBA.LL.B., B.Com.LLB. and LLB programmes and TRIAL ADVOCACY for the fourth fifth and third LLB students

MOOT COURT ORIENTATION:
The orientation for moot court organized for the first years consisted of 6 separate sessions which dealt with the topics highlighted below –

Introduction: Familiarize participants with the fundamentals of moot court, setting the stage for comprehensive learning.
How to Read a Proposition: Teach effective strategies for analyzing and understanding moot court propositions.
Research for Moot Court: Guide participants in conducting thorough legal research to strengthen their case arguments.
Review of the Memorandum: Instruct on the critical examination and improvement of legal memorandum for clarity and persuasiveness.
How to Present Pleadings: Provide insights into the art of presenting legal pleadings convincingly in a moot court setting.
Demo Moot Court Session: Through a Facilitate practical learning simulated moot court session, allowing participants to apply acquired skills in a realistic context.

TRIAL ADVOCACY:
The trial advocacy session consisted of two separate sessions dealing with the topics highlighted below -

TExamination of witness: It is the process by which a witness gives evidence in court, typically during a trial. During examination in chief, the witness is questioned by the lawyer representing the party that called the witness to give evidence.

Cross examination of witness-The session also focused on giving the students hands on training as to how to cross examine a witness who is on trial. The session also gave a brief idea about the different types of questions that is legally permissible to be asked by the litigant.
