Mental Health Club Event Report

The mental Health club of St. Joseph’s College of Law hosted a Happiness Week from the 16th to the 19th of January, 2024, with the theme 'Dil Se... Celebrate Life.'

The inauguration of Mental Health Week commenced on a harmonious note as teachers set the tone with soulful singing, creating an atmosphere of unity and positivity. Following this heartfelt prelude, a symbolic gesture unfolded with the introduction of a gratitude tree, marking the official commencement of Mental Health Week. In a beautiful display of collaboration, the Director, Principal, Vice-Principal, Committee Coordinator, teachers, and student representatives each tied a gratitude note onto the tree. This symbolic act not only embodied the spirit of collective gratitude but also emphasized the importance of mental well-being within our academic community. The pinnacle of the inauguration was a mesmerizing dance drama on the theme "If insecurity had a human form," capturing the attention of all present and initiating meaningful conversations about mental health. The combined efforts of the participants not only inaugurated Mental Health Week

Day 1 was a screening of the movie "Good Will Hunting," a heartfelt movie highlighting the importance of mental health amidst the highs and lows of life. Approximately 15 students joined in for this heartfelt cinematic experience, engaging in thoughtful reflections on the intricate facets of mental well-being portrayed in the movie.

Day 2 unfolded with the vibrant strokes of "Brushes of Positivity," a painting session that brought students together in a shared space. With 80 participants, the atmosphere buzzed with creativity as students reveled in each other's company. This expressive gathering allowed emotions to flow onto canvases, illustrating the diverse and beautiful forms through which emotional expression can take shape.

Day 3 was undoubtedly the most popular and successful of them all, a dance session "Zumba Ho!", in which the students themselves led the rest of their college mates, and even some of their beloved professors, in a spirited dance session to lighten spirits and get the endorphins running high.

Day 4 was the final event, an Open Mic held in the Quadrangle, which saw participants express their emotions in the form of songs, recitations and any other forms of expression that they felt comfortable with. 22 students participated in this activity.

It was also a special day for the MHC as we released the very first edition of its biannual magazine, which endeavors to be a medium for the expression of all kinds, both for SJCL's students and faculty, and to promote the destigmatization of mental health issues, fostering a more safe, inclusive and kind environment.

The MHC is extremely grateful and decidedly overwhelmed by the warm response of the college and hopes to continue spreading awareness and emphasizing the importance of taking care of one's mental health in whatever way possible.
