Topic: The Purpose of Education in the 21st Century

The Law and Development Committee successfully held its first event of the new year on January 10th, 2024. The event was a panel discussion on the purpose of education in the 21st Century, what is it imparting, and the takeaways of teachers and students from the education.

• Mr. Geo C Varghese spoke about how the purpose of education is two pronged- to pursue the truth and to live and examine life. He spoke about the philosopher’s point of view on the system.

• Mr. Bhaskar Simha discussed the difference between studying and learning and brought real world examples to the table. He related to the students and shared some anecdotes.

This was then followed by a Q&A discussion which ranged from discussions on competitive examinations and Anthony Gramsci to the final goals of the purpose of receiving an education.
