International Seminar on “Contemporary issues in Intellectual Property Rights”

An international seminar on “Contemporary Issues in Intellectual Property Rights” was organised on 2nd August, 2024 by the PG Department of St. Joseph’s College of Law, Bangalore at the Conference Hall. The seminar was attended by the PG Students of SJCL, UG Students who are studying IPR, interested students and faculty members.

The seminar started with the inaugural in the presence of the resource persons, Fr. Jerald D Souza SJ (Director), Dr. Pauline Priya (Principal), Ms. Shoba Hedge (Vice-Principal) and Dr. Shreshth Bhatnagar (PG Faculty).

The first session, the resource person Prof. Dr Steve Tapia, Distinguished Practitioner in Residence at Seattle University spoke about “Exploring Emerging Trends in Intellectual Property Rights Jurisprudence.” Dr. Avishek Chakraborty dealt with the aspect of “Commercialisation of Intellectual Property Rights” in the second session.

Cyberspace poses interesting challenges for the enforcement of IPR and this aspect was covered by Dr. Bheemesh, Senior Advisor at ALMT Legal. The interface between the antitrust laws and IPR was dealt by HS Vivekananda, Advocate Solicitor. The programme was an enriching exercise where the participants were benefited by the knowledge shared by the academics and practitioners in the field of IPR. All the participants were given the certificate of participation.
