The National Service Scheme [NSS] Unit of St Joseph's College of Law organized under the banner of Youth Red Cross Society, conducted a Blood Donation Camp on 22nd December, 2023. The primary objective of this camp was to inspire youth of the concept of "Save Life" by donating blood for the needy. The noble cause was to support Victoria Government Hospital, Bengaluru through this service rendered by our students.

The camp commenced with a medical team from the hospital in presence of our Director, Fr. Jerald D'Souza, SJ, Principal, Dr. Pauline Priya, along with the NSS Co-ordinator Prof. Shoba R, student volunteers, doners and other supporting staff, symbolizing the official commencement of the day's activities.

The blood donation started at 9:40 am which was efficiently organised with all necessary arrangements for registration, medical check-ups and post-donation refreshments. The setup ensured a smooth and systematic flow of donors throughout the day. The NSS committee volunteers actively engaged and played a crucial role in coordinating various aspects of the camp. Volunteers assisted in registration, guided donors through the process and ensured a comfortable environment for both donors and medical staff.

A dedicated medical team, including doctors and nurses, managed the blood collection process. Strict adherence to safety protocols and hygiene standards was maintained. Donors underwent a thorough medical examination to ensure their eligibility for donation.

The campaign saw enthusiastic participation from students and staff. Donors were briefed about the importance of their contribution and the positive impact it could have on saving lives. Efforts were made to create awareness about the constant need for blood donations in healthcare.

Over 120 forms were registered, the attending doctors provided personalized recommendations and advised lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, and suitable medical interventions to help improve Hb levels and BP over time for all the rejected donors. These recommendations were conveyed to the individuals with a focus on their long-term health and well-being.

The camp successfully collected 46 units of blood, with 44- male donors and 2- female donors.

The work of the NSS volunteers is highly appreciated from planning meetings, providing valuable input and ensuring that the camp aligned with the college's values and objectives, the committee gained valuable insights and support, enhancing the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the event. The Blood Donation Camp was a resounding success, not only in terms of the quantity of blood collected but also in promoting social responsibility.
