“One Mic Stand”

The event "One Mic Stand: Keepin' It Real" held on December 19, 2024, proved to be a successful and impactful experience for the students who participated. Its aim was to provide a safe and supportive environment for students to express their internal struggles and to encourage creative outlets for emotional release, such as storytelling, spoken word, and music.

The results were overwhelmingly positive, with many students sharing personal experiences and confronting their inner issues. Some even came prepared with their own original poetry and songs, allowing them to experience a deep sense of catharsis as they released their emotions. The supportive atmosphere gave participants a feeling of acceptance and validation, and many expressed how liberated they felt after performing.

Some students admitted that they initially felt hesitant but participated as a way to face their fears. These individuals expressed pride in overcoming their doubts and taking the leap to open up. Others, who didn't have their own compositions, found comfort in using movie songs or pre- existing poetry to convey their emotions. They were still able to feel the same sense of validation and catharsis, which reinforced the event’s mission of providing a space for all forms of expression.

While the feedback was mostly positive, a suggestion was made to improve the registration process by informing students earlier to allow for more preparation time. This could help ensure even more students are able to take part and benefit from the event in the future.

Overall, "One Mic Stand: Keepin' It Real" succeeded in creating a meaningful space for students to release negative emotions, build confidence, and connect with others through shared vulnerability and creative expression.
