Inaugural Orientation Programme 24th July to 29th July

St. Joseph’s Institutions formally set foot in the domain of legal studies on the 24 th of July 2017. The college initiated this journey by organizing a six-day Orientation Programme for the first batch of BA.LLB and LLB students from 24th July 2017 to 29th July 2017. The Heads of various Jesuit Institutions, parents of students, well wishers and benefactors were present on this momentous occasion to witness the establishment of the first Jesuit Law College in South Asia. Fr Anthony Joseph SJ the Rector, St Joseph’s Institutions and Vice President of Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society, in his inaugural address stressed on the purpose to establish a Law College. Prof VB Coutinho, the Vice Chancellor of Garden City University in his keynote address spoke passionately about the legal education system and how the student community can gain from this arrangement.

The six day programme comprised of themes addressing various areas of interest which fall in the purview of Legal Studies and Jesuit Education. Prof.Cheriyan Alexander and Prof. Mini Mark Bonjour from the Department of English at the St Joseph’s College Autonomous, Bangalore conducted a day long workshop to equip students with reference, reading and writing skills. The Director, Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ addressed the students on various aspects of campus life. The Director emphasized on the mission and vision of college which was to produce ethically sound lawyers practicing the moto “Faith and Toil”.

The remaining sessions were graced by distinguished speakers such as Fr. Freddie D’Silva SJ, Dr. Ali Khwaja (Trainer, Banjara Academy), Mr. Vivek Chandy (Partner J.Sagar Associates), Dr. Sarasu Esther Thomas (NLSIU), Prof. Babu Mathew (NLSIU), Fr. Clement Campos (CSsR), Dr. Anant Kamath (Azim Premji), Prof. VS Mallar (NLSIU), Dr. S.V. Joga Rao (NLSIU) and Justice Santosh Hegde (Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, former Solicitor General of India and Lokayukta for Karnataka). Each speaker attempted to arouse Curiosity in their various fields of endeavours . The students actively participated in each of these interactive sessions by asking numerous questions. The six day programme set the tone for the working of the academic system and journey which St. Joseph’s Institutions has embarked on.
