Jerome Nirmal Raj Associate Professor (Rtd) was Head, Department of Political Science, St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore till his superannuation in March 2017. He has been teaching in St Joseph’s institutions since 1983. He served as Dean of the Social Sciences from 2005 to 2011. His areas of interest and specialization are in the fields of international relations and political theory. He has presented papers, organized and participated in several National and International seminars and conferences.

Besides his teaching assignments he has organized and participated in various public awareness programs related to ecology and the environment under the guidance of the late Fr. Cecil Saldanha S J, conservation botanist and taxonomist. He has organized exbhitions on the theme of Sustainable Development and produced a short documentary on Bangalore’s Unsustainable growth, in the mid 90’s. The documentary was screened at the young journalists meet at Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore and later at Germany.

His work in the field of environmental awareness has been recognized by premiere organizations like the International Union for conserving Nature (IUCN), Gland, Switzerland; the World Wide Fund for Nature and the Karnataka State pollution Control Board and the Centre for Environment Education. He has coordinated programs with the United States Consulate, Chennai for over two decades. He has organized special parallel courses at college in the area of Peace Studies, and a ‘Legal Literacy’ program for 23 years in association with the National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

His academic interest includes World History; Political thought & Political philosophy; International Affairs; International Organization; Peace and conflict studies; Media; Science and Technology and Alternatives.
