Formal Inaugural of St. Joseph’s College of Law

St. Joseph's College of Law was formally inaugurated on 16th September 2017 as the first Jesuit law college in South Asia. Gracing the occasion with their presence were personalities like Justice Kurian Joseph Supreme Court of India, Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore, Mr. N.A Harris MLA of Shanti Nagar constituency, the Provincial Karnataka Jesuit Province, Vice-President & Rector of Bangalore Jesuit Education Society Fr. Anthony Joseph the Vice Chancellor of Garden City University Professor VB Coutinho and a host of other dignitaries including Prof. Dr. Chidananda Reddy Patil Vice Chancellor (Actg.) Karnataka State Law University Hubballi, Prof. Dr. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor NLSIU, Mr. YR Sadashiva Reddy Chairman KSBC, Member BCI and Mr. Jayakumar S Patil, Member KSBC, Bengaluru. The invocation of Tagore's "Where the mind is without fear" by the college choir and a short introductory video marked the onset of the inauguration. A ceremonial lamp was lit soon after, by the dignitaries to solemnize the occasion. Students were then addressed by the luminaries who impressed upon them the momentous nature of the event. Justice Kurian Joseph, the keynote speaker of the event urged students to approach law differently and to not settle just for a degree. On a similar note the Hon. Justice urged students to take up law to defend the rights of their countrymen. A blessing by the Archbishop was followed by an address on the conceptualization of the idea of setting up South Asia's first Jesuit law school. Professor VB Coutinho spoke about the milestones he'd imagine the college would soon achieve and the hopes he has for the college. This was followed by a formal address by the Provincial of the Karnataka Jesuits and the Rector & Vice-President BJES. The other dignitaries commended and complimented the management for their latest initiative in legal education. The Director of the College, Fr. Swebert D'Silva set out his ambitious plan for the college and the groundwork that was laid for the foundation of the institute. Dignitaries addressed the press and interacted with students soon after marking the completion of the inaugural ceremony.
